When you became a mom, you did not stop being a college graduate. There have probably been times as you moved from the professional world into the role of full time mom that you thought about all the skills that you learned in college and if you would ever use those skills again. That desire to use what those years in school taught you is a good lead on an outstanding market you can tap for an excellent work at home opportunity. That is the market if students who need help with the research, writing or typing of their term papers.

For many students, writing is one of the hardest things they have to learn. In a way, by offering your services to college students who have money but not the skill, talent or time to write is a way for you to be part of the college experience again. Now, there are ethical issues to keep in mind. As a mom, you don’t want to send a message to your children that its ok to pay someone else to do your work. If a student contacts you to write a term paper for them, its unethical for you to all of the work and for that student to represent that paper to his or her instructors as original work. But as long as you are assisting in the process and not taking away from the original work the student must do, you can stay in ethical territory and be of help to a struggling student.

There are levels of complexity that you will do for a student and each brings with it a different level of pay. Those levels are typing, composition, research and editing.

Typing term papers has been a cottage industry for years. Many college students just do not have the skills to type a term paper that will look great. You will charge by the word or by the page. The student must deliver to you the written paper in some form of understandable script. The tough thing might just be reading the student’s handwriting. When you are done, you will deliver to the student a beautifully typed paper on nice parchment and even bound in a classy binder that they can turn in for the grade.

Since many students do all of their work on laptops these days, they may produce a term paper using a word processor. But they may not know how to edit that paper for grammar, flow and formatting. College paper formatting is quite particular so if you are familiar with the various requirements of formal papers, you can be a real lifesaver for a student who is on a deadline to get his paper edited and ready to be turned in.

It is the research and composition part that will be the areas where ethical issues come up. This is where you may be able to be more than a typists but a do some instruction and even a bit of mothering for that struggling college student. If you help with the research and even the composition, that may be a great way to help that student as long as the student is learning from what you are doing. This is where the “work at home” job of typing term papers becomes a mixture of typing and tutoring. But if it helps the young student do better in school and it helps you build your work at home career, two find objectives are met and everybody wins.
